Young Polish musicians play
music by young Ukrainian composers

KONCERTY

In 2007, the Polish Institute in Kiev commissioned four young Ukrainian composers who were scholarship holders of the Gaude Polonia programme (a scholarship from the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage) to write a piece to a Polish poetic text of their choice. The commission was awarded to BOHDANA FROLYAK, BOHDAN SEHIN, MYHHAYLO SHVED and OLEKSANDR SHYMKO. The premiere performance of these works took place in Kiev on 12 April 2008 at the "Season Premieres" Festival. The performers were AGATA ZUBEL - soprano, SVITLANA HLEBA - soprano and the orchestra "KYIV CAMERATA" conducted by ROMAN REWAKOWICZ. The concert was very well received by the audience and critics.
Following this commission, the Polish Institute in Kiev approached another four young Ukrainian composers, also former Gaude Polonia scholarship holders. The commission was awarded to ZOLTAN ALMASHI, SVITLANA AZAROVA, MARIJA OLIYNYK and LUBAVA SYDORENKO. This time, the composers had to write an instrumental piece for which a poem by a Polish poet of their choice was to be the inspiration. The premieres of the newly created works, as well as repeat performances of previously commissioned works, were given by the POLISH ORCHESTRA SINFONIA IUVENTUS conducted by ROMAN REWAKOWICZ with the participation of soloists Martha BOBERSKA and AGATA ZUBEL during a concert tour in the following venues:

16 April 2009 - Philharmonic Concert Hall in Lublin

17 April 2009 - W. Lutosławski Concert Studio of the Polish Radio in Warsaw

21 April 2009 - The Concert Hall of the Philharmonic in Lviv

22 April 2009 - The Concert Hall of the Philharmonic in Vinnitsa

24 April 2009 - "Two Days and Two Nights" Festival in Odessa

26 April 2009 - Kyiv Philharmonic Concert Hall

The concerts were very well received by the audience, who gave the performers a standing ovation.

The tour was realised with the financial support of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, the Adam Mickiewicz Institute, the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine, the National Cultural Centre, the Polish Institute in KYiv, as well as with the involvement of the philharmonics and local organisers in individual cities.

The tour was held as part of the European Stadium of Culture project.
