Lyudkevych is the author of works for symphony orchestra, vocal and instrumental works, operas, numerous choral compositions, songs, chamber works, as well as musicological studies. 

STANYSLAV LYUDKEVYCH (1879, Yaroslavl – 1979, Lviv) – composer, conductor, musicologist, folklorist. In 1901 he graduated from the philosophical faculty of Lviv University. In Lviv in 1898-1901 he took composition lessons with Adam Soltys. In 1901-07, he taught at Ukrainian grammar schools in Lviv and Peremysl. In 1907-08 he continued his musical studies in Vienna with H. Gredener (counterpoint) and A. Zemlinski (composition). In 1909 he received a doctorate in musicology from the University of Vienna, where he studied with Guido Adler.

At that time he also attended lectures by Hugo Riemann in Leipzig. After returning to Lviv in 1910, he became director of the M. Lysenko Higher Musical Institute. In 1914, mobilized into the Austrian army, he was taken into Russian captivity and stayed in Kazakhstan until the end of the war. In 1919-39 he taught theoretical subjects at the Higher Musical Institute in Lviv, and in 1926-39 was inspector of its branch. From 1939 he was a professor at the Lviv Conservatory of Music. Lyudkevych is the author of works for symphony orchestra, vocal and instrumental works (cantatas Caucasus, Testament, Naymyt), operas (Bar-Kochba, Dovbush), numerous choral compositions, songs, chamber works, as well as musicological studies.
