Ukrainian-Dutch composer, graduate of the Antonina Nezhanova Music Academy in Odesa.

SVITLANA AZAROVA (born 1976) is a Ukrainian-Dutch composer, a graduate of the Antonina Nezhanova Music Academy in Odesa in the class of Karmella Tsepkolenko. She was a recipient of the “Gaude Polonia” scholarship program of the Polish Minister of Culture and National Heritage (2003, with Marcin Blazewicz at the Fryderyk Chopin Academy of Music in Warsaw) and the pass_ПОРТ scholarship project in Germany and the KulturKontakt association in Austria. She completed postgraduate studies in Amsterdam with Theo Loevendie. She has been living in The Hague since 2006.

She is a member of the Composers’ Union of Ukraine and the Dutch Composers’ Union, among others. Her works are performed by ensembles and orchestras around the world, including at festivals: “Kyiv Music Fest”, International Forum of Young Composers (Kyiv), “Two Days and Two Nights” (Odesa), “Foro de Música Nueva” (Mexico), Chamber Music Days (Amsterdam, Netherlands), Nederlandse Muziekdagen (Utrecht, Netherlands), Dresdner Tage der zeitgenössischen Muzik (Germany), and in Belgium, France, Poland, Austria, Azerbaijan, Japan, among others. His last major production, the opera Momo and the Thieves of Time, was commissioned and staged by the Royal Danish Opera in Copenhagen (2017).
