Roman Rewakowicz conducted Ukrainian orchestras in the last months of 2021, presenting a program called “Polish Music in Ukraine.” Works by Henryk Mikołaj Górecki, Stanisław Moniuszko and Wojciech Kilar, among others, were played. He presented it in Mariupol, Chernivtsi, Dnipro, Kharkiv – today we hear about these cities in the context of the war. In Warsaw, Rewakowicz has been organizing Days of Ukrainian Music for years, and is also involved in the Lviv-based Kontrasty Festival. How did his adventure with music begin, and how was the conductor’s identity formed?
