7th Days of Ukrainian Music in Warsaw

DAYS OF UKRAINIAN MUSIC

The 7th Days of Ukrainian Music in Warsaw took place at the beginning of September. The aim was to familiarise music lovers with Ukrainian music, which is widely unknown in Poland, but very original and interesting. Three concerts presented its various aspects. At the Festival’s opening concert performed by the Lviv-based ensemble A Cappella Leopolis, we heard, among others, anonymous multi-voice choral concertos of the first half of the 18th century. A chamber concert performed by Warsaw’s Royal String Quartet showcased the works of Ukrainian contemporary ‘classics’ – Valentin Sylvestrov and Yevhen Stankovych, as well as younger composers. The orchestral concert, performed by the National Ensemble of Soloists “Kiev Kamerata“, presented composers with an established position on the Ukrainian scene.

All this was possible thanks to a three-year grant from the City of Warsaw and the financial support of the Ukrainian Institute from Kiev, the ZAiKS Authors’ Association, the OBOLON Corporation, the Union of Performing Artists STOART and the MAGOVOX Company. The partners of the Pro Musica Viva Foundation in the implementation of the Festival were the Union of Ukrainians in Poland, the Our Choice Foundation and the St. John the Baptist Archcathedral in Warsaw. Media patronage was received from the Rzeczpospolita daily, the Ukrainian weekly Our Word, TVP Kultura, Radio TOK FM and Ukrainian media – the newspapers DEN and Ukraina moloda, as well as The Claquers portal and Radio Iceland.

We were also supported by individual donors Natalia Rewakowicz, Lyudmila and Rosyslav Sossa, Oleksandra and Viktor Tkach, Miroslawa Werbowy-Onuch, Maria Rewakowicz, Anna Rewakowicz, Ann Essenhigh, Ewa Samborska, Olga Tsymbaluk, Agnieszka Nowacka-Dyderska.

Many thanks to all of you!
